Hiya, Julie Hylande here. just popped in to tell you abit about myself.
Well the name' JULIE HYLANDE' was created for me to use on radio because I wasn't happy using my real name.
My real name is DANA TRIPP. I took the first name from my middle name and shortened it from JULIET to JULIE, then took the second name from one of my old boss's sirname HYLAND, ended up with the Radio name: JULIE HYLANDE! Oh and I added the E' on the end of HYLANDE as an added bonus!
How I started & Youth Radio
Well, i've been involved with radio for many years now and it all began when I first met Steven King at the triangle building in Basildon. He introduced me to krystal and so I began training for Youth radio, braodcasting over the whole of the youth cenres in the Basildon District.
Eastgate FM
I worked closely with Steve and helped to get the Eastgate FM project off the ground. In June 1999, Eastgate FM went on air for 28 days. I assisted on the station giving full administration support and occasionally going on air as a Co. presenter on the Sandie Seward Show. I also engineered one of Steve Shrimptons Shows too. I must add that on the first night of the braodcast, me and Steve went into the main shopping mall in the Eastgate centre where we could hear what was going out on air. I looked at Steve and he looked at me and we both said 'we've done it' Nice one Steve, and i am so happy that I was able to help you fullfill one of your life long dreams!
Basildon Hospital Radio (BHR 1287)
I joined a local hospital radio service where i was trained up on their equipment and eventually had my own show on a saturday evening.
I decided to leave as I felt that it was abit to political for my liking.
The Present Day
I currantly do a show on Krystal radio between 2-4, playing 60's, 70's & 80's pop and rock tracks, plus the odd track from my fav band FOREIGNER!!!
So why not tune in and discover the madness that occurs when my shows going out on air!
I have several interests and hobbies outside of Krystal Radio. A few years ago I decided to join the Coal House Fort Project in East Tilbury, Essex, where I began training to become a Tour Guide. Well, i've now completed my basic training and I now take guided tours around the fort giving historic facts about the history of the fort and what life would have been like back in the victorian period. I have also had fun there, especially during Halloween. I have dressed up in fancy dress costume and have scared the living day lights out of the general public who dares enter the haunted fort.
People have asked me have i ever seen a ghost! Well the truth is YES and that was one incident i'll never forget. If you wanna know what happened, then email me and i'll tell ya!
Another hobby and interest I really enjoy doing is Line dancing and dancing in general. One of my life long dreams is to become a dance choreographer and be able to put on a stage dance performance.
I am also a Cub Scout Leader and I love working with the kids as well as going on Camp. It's hard work but great fun.
Well, I really love music from the 60's 70's & 80's eras.
Yes I was a whamette for many years.
My favourite artists and groups are: Elton John, Lionel Richie, Jim Diamond, Foreigner, Anastacia, Michael Jackson (God rest his soul), Phil Collins and many many more.
Well I would have to say that my favourite past times must be when i was learning contempory dance at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon Essex. We were training to perform a dance rutine for a show called 'A twist of Lennon'. We were performing a rutine to a track called 'Mean Mr Mustard Man' where i was one of the Blue meanies, then I was a sunflower dancing in the background in 'All you need is love' and then i appeared for the final tracks 'Merry Christmas, the war is over' followed by 'All we are saying, is give peace a chance'. It was a night to remember and a night i'll never forget.
Another Past time that comes to mind is when i saved someone's life. I joined the St John Ambulance Brigade in 1995 and served for about 3 years, training in all areas of first aid from Basic First Aid upto Defib. using the skills that i had trained for some years, I was able to save a mans life. This man had taken an overdose and had stopped breathing. I was able to perform CPR and managed to bring him back. I was awarded a commisioners commendation for this in 1998. Since then, i've never forgotten my training and would do it all again to save and preserve a life in need!
One final memory, is when i went off to Cork in southern Ireland. I had 10 days of discovering what Southern Ireland has to offer and also discovered my Celtic roots as my family originally came from Ireland.
One thing I must add is that i lost a dear friend and fellow presenter on 1st october 2010. However her memories live on Krystal Radio.
